How do free thinkers meet? I'm moderately curious about a site like this. I left an 8-year committed relationship some time ago, and have found that a) it's really tough to meet quality men; b) that bars are just as bad as being set up by my mother; c) that politics are just as important as religion to me.

So, after joking with a Libertarian friend of mine about finding me a nice Libertarian or anarchist (Jewish - yes, I'm determined to date within my religion) guy, I woke up this morning half-curious if there was a Libertarian dating site out there. Alas, there is! I'll give a try, I suppose.

I need a free-thinker, an open-minded guy, who is ready for a reality-based relationship. Too many people out there want a fairy tale, i.e., some blissful relationship where everything is perfect. Apparently, logic and reason extend far past my politics and into my love life, because I find it silly to think that bliss is real. In reality, harmony is possible, but is occasionally accompanied by discord.

Furthermore, my life isn't perfect - far from it, in fact. My history has bumps, bruises and baggage. I try to check the baggage before the flight, but occasionally some of it becomes carry-on, to continue the metaphor. That's life.

Look, I don't want to change anyone or have anyone change me. I'm unapologetically stubborn and unabashedly independent. That's not to say that I don't want someone with whom I can share a life; someone in whom I can confide; someone with whom I can talk and dream and plan.

Which brings me back to why I'm here. I'm going to try this. Maybe it'll work, maybe not. But what am I out by trying it? A few minutes to type this out? If I even meet just-a-friend, then it's worth it.
